Road tripping to Oklahoma!
Departure Time: Wednesday, Feb 23 5:00am
I spend Tuesday evening baking an ALMOND Cheesecake. Why? An idea popped into my head earlier that afternoon and this was something I just couldn't pass up.
Y'all know cheesecakes aren't the quickest thing on the dessert menu to make.
Here's something I did to pass time while waiting...waiting....waiting....
I was getting a little frustrated while I was out and about Tuesday night trying to find a cake box. I needed to find a small box; afterall, this cheesecake was going on a 5 hour drive and I needed to keep it cool and I did not want to lug out the big cooler.
I went to Hobby Lobby thinking they would have a huge selection. I was wrong. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT PICTURE?
I went to Wal-Mart; no such luck there.
Okay, Geralynn it's time to get creative. I just started browsing through the aisles to see what I could find. I went through the grocery area and they were stocking shelves and I saw boxes. I asked the employee if I could have a box and she had to go double check. She came back and said sure.
Giddy-up! I got a box to transport the cheesecake in and it cost me a whooping $0.00!
I finally retired to bed about 12:30am only to have my alarm clock go off 3 1/2 hours later. I load up the vehicle and started on my journey.
Directions would be helpful...
I get to Main Pkwy only to find out that road is closed. I take the detour, then turn on the next available road, and I just drive around until I see Main Pkwy and then Fort Gibson Rd. I found the destination without a problem and I'm early, so I had some time to kill.
Mike finally arrives and we head to lunch and of course they want me to drive. Being someone that's never really been to OK before, but that's okay they are in the vehicle telling me which way to go. So it's all good.
Now to get to the hotel...I have directions again.
But main parkway is closed and my directions tell me to go that way, so Mike tells me directions and says can you stay behind me. I knew I wouldn't b/c I don't like cutting people off and you never know how traffic is going to be.
I go to the stop light and turn left like he tells me and I am just driving tell I see 169N. A little while goes and I wonder where my phone is so I search for it and it takes me a bit and I notice I have a few missed calls from Mike. I call him and he wants to know where I am at. I tell him I went to the stoplight and turned left and I'm still waiting to come upon 169N. I tell him I passed a highway and he told me I went to far and I needed to turn on that road. I told him it didn't say 169N. He asked me which way I was going and I looked up at the rear view mirror and it didn't say 5 anymore. Side note: On the way down I kept looking at it and I was like why does the rearview mirror say 5? It actually is a S for south. lol
Mike informs me I am going the wrong way; I was like you told me to turn left at the stop light. I turn around and head back the other way to get to the hotel.

Drive from hotel to SPS.
I figure this time it shouldn't be a problem. I take the detour again and I thought I was driving the same way I did before. Well, I found CPD first this time. Okay, no problem I drove to and from this place yesterday. I'll be able to find it. I kept going on the roads I thought I took and then Mike called me. Right after he called me I looked over to my left and saw the yellow metal beams, I just had to go one block to the left.
Drive from SPS to Kansas.....can't forget about my lovely google directions
This shouldn't be too hard; I just need to find my way back to the hotel and I'm good to go from there. I remember to turn right at the stoplight. And it's a ways on this road, so I kind of get wrapped up in the music and then I realize I missed my turn and I'm now on another highway. Thinking to myself this will be okay I'll just turn around at the next exit and back track. IT STARTS RAINING! I hate driving in the rain especially when I'm not familiar with my surroundings. Oklahoma's road signs are already bad enough let alone trying to read them in a downpour :(
I see an exit for Claremore ( a toll exit ) I check out the pictures I printed of my google maps and that didn't help me much at all.
I tell the $ taker about my situation and he hands me a map of OKLAHOMA! Giddy-up I get a free map of OK, well technically it's not free b/c I missed my exit and paid $.50 to go through the toll. He tells me to go left on HWY 20 and follow it to Owasso and I can get on 169N from there.
Thinking to myself: This shouldn't be too hard. Then it starts pea size hailing...errrrrrrrrr
I pull over so I can check out the map to get an idea of what I will need to look for.
(break time - I need to take a nap before I have to go to work at 11am)

Maybe I should finish my story and publish it sooner next time. Waiting 3 months is not good.
